Individual Counseling
Dr. Julie’s work is centered around helping healthy people think differently about what is happening in their lives. Only the most courageous people go to therapy. That is because it is not a lot of fun to sit and talk about yourself. Especially if we are talking about aspects of you and your life that you may not be so fond of. However, Dr. Julie is nonjudgmental, kind, straightforward and supportive so that you can begin to connect the dots about why you think, feel and do the things you do. Knowledge is power and Dr. Julie helps people learn theory while applying it to the practical aspects of life.
Depression
So many people have suffered from symptoms of depression.
Characteristics such as reduced energy, lowered concentration, and minimal motivation are hallmark features of depression. Also, some people experience an inability to derive enjoyment from pleasant activities.
Therapy is quite effective at reducing these symptoms. In addition, when therapy is done well, in a supportive and caring environment, remission can last a very long time.
Dr. Julie provides this comfort both in her office and on telehealth. She will help you understand what your depression represents and dissolve it. Then you will find yourself taking control back and truly living your best life.
Anxiety
Anxiety is the most common reason for seeking out a therapist. Covid has made many people experience anxiety for a first time and if you or someone you know has managed anxiety before Covid, it is likely it is significantly worse now. Anxiety comes in many forms and Dr. Julie is proficient at helping clients manage their anxiety symptoms to the point where those symptoms are virtually no longer a concern or hindrance.
Family Counseling
Dr. Julie recognizes the need for an emphasis on family counseling when a client is working through their issues and then returns back to their family of origin. It is imperative that the members of the family system understand their role and what they may have contributed to an individual family member’s issues. If this does not happen, it creates a situation where continued change and progress is unlikely for the client who is seeking help.
Substance Abuse
Dr. Julie offers counseling for alcohol and substance abuse. In conjunction with AA when necessary, Dr. Julie can assist clients in their struggle with sobriety. Step work as well as homework are a required component of this.
Grief and Loss
Sadly it is only a matter of time before we experience issues related to grief and loss. Whether it is the passing of a loved one, a pet or relationship, how we deal with loss and grief is as unique as our own fingerprints. In addition, mourning can kick up residual issues that we may not have even known were in our subconscious. Managing these difficult issues very likely necessitates professional help, especially if it is an ongoing issue. No one should ever feel uneasy about seeking mental health help for anything, especially around issues of grief and loss.
Women's Issues
Men and women are very different. As a woman, Dr. Julie has studied and appreciated the unique aspects of functioning in our world as a female who is also a wife, mother and professional. As it does for men, there are challenges that women face that are intrinsic with this category of human beings. Dr. Julie is available and so willing to help you manage all of those competing and demanding expectations with grace and ease.
